annual IFKB meeting

On November 18th, 2005 the IFKB organized its annual IFKB-meeting. The meeting was held in the Gymnasion in Nijmegen, which was just large enough to accommodate the 80 participants of the meeting..

During the day, 4 oral presentations were given by PhD students (Patricia de Groot (TB1), Miranda Boonstra (TA2), Arne Ridderikhoff (TC1) and Didier Staudenmann (TA1). They presented the main results of their work up to now. Professor Geert Savelsbergh (coordinator of TC2) was invited as keynote speaker and presented an excellent overview of the research conducted in this subprogramme. Because all these speakers are members of different subprogrammes, the presentations provided a broad overview of the research conducted within the IFKB. The last (invited) speaker of the meeting was Professor Paul Lips (VUMC). The title of his presentation was “Moving and osteoporosis”. In his intriguing presentation he addressed the extent and mechanisms of changes in bone quantity and quality in relation to the amount and form of exercise as well as to the absence of activity.

During the whole meeting 21 posters were presented mainly by PhD students. During the breaks there were ample possibilities for viewing the posters, leading to animated and profound discussions.
