The Swimming Research Center Amsterdam emerged from the Research Group Cyclic Movements that was established in the 1980's in the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences.

The research group Cyclic Movements became in 1995 one of the subprogrammes of the Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Human Movement Sciences (IFKB).

In January 2003 the Swimming Research Center of Amsterdam was established as a joint project between the IFKB and the Academy of Physical Education Amsterdam. This forms part of a broader co-operation between the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences and the Academy of Physical Education to build a bridge between the two institutes that among other things will facilitate students of the Academy of Physical Education with a Bachelors degree to enroll in the Masters of Science program of the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences.

(see for members of the Swimming Research Center Amsterdam here)

The Swimming Research Center Amsterdam closely co-operates with Top Zwemmen Amsterdam (Top Swimming Amsterdam), specifically with Hans Elzerman (technical director) and Fedor Hes (coach)

We enjoy the close collaboration with Ir. Wieger Mensonides who is our sparring partner in the projects 'technique' and 'wave drag'.

We collaborate with the Technical University Delft: prof dr T. van Terwisga, dr L Keuning, dr. de Koning Gans, and the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands, MARIN, Wageningen: dr M. van Rijsbergen in the project to determine the magnitude of wave drag and the possible effect of technique on this drag component.

In 2002/2003 we closely co-operate with the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB) and the National Olympic Committee*National Sport Federation.
